Lady Ada King, Countess of Lovelace is often referred to as the first computer programmer as her programs for Charles Babbage’s “analytical engine” were the first to be published. Her extensive notes inspired Turing’s work on modern computers. Ada Lovelace died of cancer at the age of 36.
Ada Lovelace Day was founded in 2009 by Suw Charman-Anderson as an international day celebrating the achievements of women in science, technology, engineering and maths. This year, it falls on October 7th. Who’s your STEM heroine?
